Series 2. Spanish Merchants Company Records, 1973-1984.

These records include materials pertaining to the formation of the Spanish Merchants Company milk cooperative; board minutes (most of which are in Spanish); files of the cooperative's director, Alfredo Vaz; correspondence with the Pennsylvania Milk Marketing Board; certificates issued to shareholders; and financial records detailing the business operations of the cooperative. Included are accounts receivable billing registers and payment receipt registers which list the names of grocers who participated in the cooperative.

The Spanish Merchants Company was established by the Spanish Merchants Association of Philadelphia to distribute milk to Spanish-speaking grocers. It was the first minority milk cooperative to act as a subdealer with its own license not subject to price controls of the Pennsylvania Milk Marketing Board.
